Too cheap for a taxi

Bill and I like to walk. Part of the reason is we are too cheap to constantly pay taxis to do what our feet can do for us, part of the reason is to burn off some of the calories from all the delicious (Ireland has great food, who knew?) food we have been eating. The bonus consequence of these two great reasons is that we have had a chance to get up close and personal with some off beat, beautiful parts of the city, that just can't be enjoyed from the window of a taxi. Our first photo op came along the River Liffey banks where we had a stunning view of the Customs Hall building
The river Liffey separates the north and south sections of the city. It is beautiful and rises and falls with the tide from the Irish sea. Our hotel is a block from the waterfront and we have been walking miles in and out of town exploring every nook and cranny our tired legs can carry us to.
One of the fun places our legs made it to was the Ha' Penny Bridge over the river. It's name comes from the toll that was charged (half a penny) to cross it in years past. Luckily, we cheap-skates came to visit many years after that practice was abolished.
Our walk home last night, after our bar-hopping, Dublin atmosphere-soaking-in adventures came to an end. We crossed the bridge to find the tide in and the river's flow at a stand still as the waters current couldn't decide if it was coming or going and the water was perfectly still. The night was clear and beautiful. The view was lovely and peaceful and will remain a wonderful memory. (And a nice place to enjoy a kiss with my handsome husband.)
