Work in Progress

The time has come to say goodbye to our f*ugly kitchen floor. Long over due, too. Why did it take us so long to get to it? It just took us 6 years to realize that Bill is never, ever going to be comfortable tackling this project by himself and we need to hire it out. First project that has been entirely someone else's problem. Well almost.

Bill did decide to save a grand and demo the project himself. That part we knew he could do. He and I pulled out every major appliance (and a couple of minor ones too) and tucked them neatly away in Romney's room. Poor William is crowded out with the bookcase, table and chairs and various other paraphernalia clogging his room. The good news is it is a great visual for why I make them de-clutter their junk every few months. "Look what your room would look like if you never threw anything away!"

With the faux red brick linoleum headed (and rightfully so) to the county landfill, a new plywood sub-floor, followed by a metal mesh material (later covered by a cement like substance) was laid. The special order tile arrived. And my vision is becoming a reality.

This is what is in place so far (4 days into our project). Looking at this tiny little space completely laid is making all those meals eaten out, all those appliances out of place, all those early morning wake-ups to let the workers in and a very stressful parent meeting hosted at our house in the middle of this chaos all seem like they are going to be worth it! Retro-fabulousness is on it's way.
