Leavin' Las Vegas, is rarely difficult. Fun while it lasted, but after being surrounded by such far-fetched fantasy, it helps one feel ready to return to some semblance of reality. After having our tile project pushed back a couple of days, and Bill having the day off tomorrow we were not in any hurry to get home, but needed to head North. What we found just two hours north was pretty spectacular. . . SPRING. Actually, two things we found were spectacular, for we also found something we had never seen in St. George before.
Kayenta is an odd desert housing de-
velopment 7 miles past Santa Clara in the middle of nowhere, next to the old Highway that leads to Vegas. A friend of mine, when I asked what they did on their trip down south asked if I had ever been there. Umm... no, and why not? I had no idea it existed. It has all the trappings of a normal "planned" community. Tract looking homes (although, they do a great job blending them into the landscape.), planned paths and trails and a tiny little shopping center. The difference, this little shopping center is actually a home to local artists and artisans as their store fronts. Metal sculpture, photography, painting, pottery, jewelry, glass art, all were represented. As well as a whole foods cafe where we had the most delicious lunch sitting in the shade of their patio relaxing and enjoying the sun-- a wonderful respite from the long drive home.
After shopping, enjoying the chalk art display on the streets throughout the tiny shopping center, and eating, we hunted down the sculpture garden that my friend had told me existed within the community. Mostly metal, with a few glass pieces, we enjoyed a short walk through many pieces next to a small stream. The end of the path was our present to the boys.
My friend also told me there was a rock labyrinth tucked away at the end of the garden path that her girls love to play in. She was worried our boys might be too old to enjoy, but that was not the case. They spent a full 15 minutes patiently following the narrow paths as it lead around and around and around again to the altar at the center. What a wonderful surprise to find a new treasure in St. George. Another reason to love that town.

i've never heard of that either, i'll have to check it out. Granted, finding a Whole Foods isn't quite as exciting to me as it seems to be to you... ;)
It isn't a Whole Foods, but a cafe that serves whole food. (organic and healthy and tasty).
