It's the most wonderful time of the year! Nope, not Christmas, not in my house, not on my watch! If you know me at all, you know it is All Hallow's Eve. The night when mere children become all sorts of mystical, fantastical, creative creatures. I love it when my kids come up with unique ideas for costumes. I love it more when it is possible to buy them from a store. The problem with my two costume loves-- they are by definition, oxymorons. The thing I pretend to be at Halloween? Crafty. Creative costume ideas force that upon me. Romney wanted to be Domo this year. A wonderful Japanese character that Wikipedia says: is a strange creature that hatched from an egg, with a large, sawtoothed mouth that is locked wide open. Domo can only communicate by producing a low-pitched noise which sounds somewhat like his own name, but other characters appear to understand him. Domo is known to pass gas repeatedly when nervous or upset.Perfect for my munchkin!
My project on what looks like the last sunny, warm day before Halloween: spray paint and build a DOMO-kun from a U-haul box and a piece of left over window screening. Success is sweet when a non-crafty woman completes a project and it actually resembles what is was supposed to resemble. Now it is passed onto the engineer of the family (i.e.: Bill) for interior tweaking for fit and comfort. (Yeah, good luck with that, man.)
One down, one to go. William has asked to be an ATARI for Halloween. Domo for the warm-up, now the big-leagues- Turning a 12 year old into the classic 80's gaming console. (Yeah, good luck with that, chica!)
